July is the busiest month by a wide margin
Across every appliance we service, July brings 3,070 jobs against September's 1,486. That is more than double. June and May are close behind. If you have been putting off a repair, the quietest stretch is late September through February.
Refrigerators drive the summer spike
The seasonal swing is sharpest here: 1,085 refrigerator calls in June against 363 in January β an increase of almost 200%. Heat is the reason. A refrigerator rejects heat into the room it stands in, so a kitchen at 82Β°F forces the compressor to run far longer than the same unit would at 68Β°F. A sealed system that was quietly marginal all winter finally cannot keep up.
This is why a fridge "suddenly" fails in June when nothing changed. Usually something had been failing slowly β dust-packed condenser coils, a tired evaporator fan, a door seal no longer sealing β and summer simply removed the margin.
Ovens peak in November, not summer
Ovens run against the trend: 248 calls in November against 118 in September. The cause is not weather. It is Thanksgiving. An oven that bakes acceptably all year gets asked to hold a steady temperature for six hours straight, and a drifted temperature sensor or a weakening bake element shows up immediately.
If you host, test the oven in early November rather than the morning of. Set it to 350Β°F, give it twenty minutes, and check with a separate oven thermometer. A cavity running thirty degrees under its setting is a repair, not a quirk.
Laundry follows the same summer curve
Washers peak in July (747 against 347 in September) and dryers do the same (462 against 162). More loads, higher ambient humidity, and longer dryer cycles all compound.
What to do with this
- Book non-urgent work in the off-season. Late September through February we can usually offer next-day slots.
- Clean condenser coils in spring. Ten minutes with a vacuum in April prevents a share of the June calls.
- Test the oven in early November. Parts are easier to source before the holiday rush.
- Do not ignore a small noise in May. Small faults become emergencies in July.
Why the same appliance fails in the same month every year
Seasonality in repair data is not superstition. Every appliance in a house has a designed operating envelope, and Texas spends four months of the year pushing against the edge of it.
A refrigerator is the clearest case. It does not make cold; it moves heat out of the cabinet and dumps it into the kitchen. The bigger the gap between inside and outside, the harder it works. In January that gap is around 32Β°F. In July, in a kitchen that sits at 82Β°F because the air conditioning is losing ground, the gap is 45Β°F and the compressor may never switch off.
Continuous running is what kills components. Fan motors that would last fifteen years cycling normally last far fewer running flat out. That is why the failure arrives in summer even though the wear accumulated over years.
The pattern by appliance
- Refrigerator β peaks June, quietest January. The widest swing of any appliance we handle, at nearly 200%.
- Washer β peaks July, quietest September. More loads, more often.
- Dryer β peaks July, quietest September. Humidity packs vent lint tighter and extends every cycle.
- Oven β peaks November, quietest September. Holiday cooking, not weather.
- Dishwasher β the flattest curve of the group. Dishwashers do not care much what month it is.
The spring checklist that prevents the June call
Almost everything that fails in June was visible in April. Thirty minutes of work in spring removes most of it.
- Vacuum the refrigerator condenser coils. Behind the kick plate or at the back. This is the single highest-value job on the list.
- Check clearance. A refrigerator pushed hard against the wall cannot exhaust heat. Leave a couple of inches.
- Test the door seals. Close the door on a sheet of paper. If it pulls out with no drag, the gasket is finished.
- Clear the dryer vent line. Not just the lint screen β the duct behind the machine and the exterior flap.
- Listen. A new hum, click or rattle in April is a cheap repair. The same fault in July is an emergency call with a warm fridge full of food.
What "peak season" actually means for scheduling
In July we are dispatching roughly twice the volume of September, against the same technician count. Parts distributors run down on common refrigerator components at exactly the same time, for the same reason.
The practical consequence: a July repair that needs an ordered part can take noticeably longer than the identical repair in October. If you have a fault you already know about, having it done in the off-season is faster and less disruptive.
Common questions
Is it worth waiting until autumn if my appliance is still working?
If it is working but making a noise it did not make before, no. Wear does not pause. Get it looked at while it is still a small repair.
Does running the air conditioning harder help the refrigerator?
Yes, indirectly β a cooler kitchen means shorter compressor runs. But cleaning the condenser coils is far cheaper and does more.
My fridge is in the garage. Does that matter?
Considerably. A Texas garage can pass 100Β°F, which is outside the design range of most refrigerators. Garage units fail earlier and more often, and some will not hold freezer temperature at all in extreme heat unless they are rated for it.
